Kartik Aaryan’s Captain India to explore Yemen rescue mission against the backdrop of Houthi conflict
Kartik Aaryan’s upcoming aviation drama Captain India, directed by Shimit Amin, is reportedly set against the backdrop of the conflict in Yemen. Inspired by a real-life humanitarian evacuation mission, the film will mark Kartik’s first time playing a pilot. He will portray a character tasked with leading a rescue operation in a war-affected region.
The Houthi conflict is expected to form an important part of the film’s narrative, bringing a geopolitical element to the rescue drama. While the makers have not disclosed the exact details of how the conflict will be portrayed, the film is expected to focus on the challenges involved in carrying out a large-scale evacuation mission amid rising tensions.
The backdrop of the story traces its roots to 2015, when Houthi forces took control of Sanaa, prompting Saudi Arabia to launch a military campaign in Yemen. During the same period, India carried out Operation Raahat, a major evacuation effort to bring Indian citizens and nationals of other countries to safety from the conflict-hit region.
A source familiar with the project shared details about the film’s inspiration, stating, “Captain India is inspired from India’s one of the toughest rescue missions in the war torn country Yemen in 2015’s, where the nation rescued not only our own citizens but people from across the globe. Kartik will be seen leading world’s one of the most impossible rescue missions in the actioner.”
The film will see Kartik take on a role centred on a high-risk humanitarian operation, marking a new addition to his filmography. With the story drawing from a real-life evacuation effort, Captain India will bring the challenges of rescuing people from a conflict zone to the big screen.
Produced by T-Series and Baweja Studios in association with Kartik Aaryan’s Dopamine Studios, Captain India is currently being shot in the UK. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on August 13, 2027.
