EXCLUSIVE: Shefali Shah recalls working with Amitabh Bachchan in WAQT: The Race Against Time; says, “I am in complete awe, There is no one like him”
Shefali Shah opened up about her admiration for Amitabh Bachchan, recalling his kindness and the personal gestures that have stayed with her over the years. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Shefali spoke about her interactions with the veteran actor and how he makes people feel valued through small but meaningful gestures.
Speaking about her continued admiration for Bachchan, Shefali said, “I am in awe even today. Even today, when I meet Amit, I am in complete awe. There is no one like him. There’s just no one like him.”
Recalling her appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati some time ago, Shefali spoke about the way Bachchan greeted her and how his gesture left an impression on her. She explained that he did not need to make an extra effort to make her feel welcome, as even a simple greeting would have been enough. She said, “I did an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati quite some time ago, and the way he greeted me was so cool. He doesn’t have to do that. Even if he had simply greeted me in his gorgeous baritone, saying, ‘How are you?’, that would have been good enough.”
Shefali also recalled how Bachchan checked on her when she contracted COVID-19. Revealing that he stayed in touch with her throughout the week, she said, “When I got COVID, he messaged me every single morning for that one week.”
However, Shefali’s husband, Vipul Amrutlal Shah, had a different take on Bachchan’s daily messages. She recalled how he jokingly suggested that the actor might have created a broadcast group for people who had contracted COVID-19, adding and removing people depending on their recovery, while sending the same message to everyone. Shefali said she shared Vipul’s observation with Bachchan, who responded with a remark that highlighted the personal nature of their conversations.
Recalling the exchange, Shefali said, “Initially, I thought someone had told him to do it, so I mentioned it to him. He said, ‘Tell him to keep out of our conversation.’ (laughs) But he didn’t need to do that. He really didn’t.”
Shefali further revealed that she has kept letters written to her by Bachchan, including those she received around the time her children were born. Highlighting his habit of adding a personal touch to his gifts, she said, “He is amazing. I have letters that he has written to me, too. One of the most memorable occasions was when my children were born. I have those letters, and whenever he sends a gift, it comes with a personalised letter. He even remembers little details about my children from when they were babies. Even now, when he meets you, he remembers those things. That is what makes him so special. It’s incredible. “
Through these recollections, Shefali highlighted how Bachchan’s thoughtfulness extends beyond professional interactions. For her, his ability to remember personal details and maintain connections over the years is what makes him stand out.
