Priyanka Chopra Jonas has added another significant milestone to her global journey, gracing the National Geographic 33 cover as a changemaker championing awareness around Type 1 diabetes. At the heart of her advocacy lies her association with Beyond Type 1, a nonprofit co-founded by her husband Nick Jonas. Through this platform, Priyanka has been actively working to spread awareness about Type 1 diabetes, particularly in India, where the condition remains widely misunderstood despite affecting a large number of children and teenagers.

India is home to more children and adolescents living with Type 1 diabetes than any other country in the world. However, misinformation surrounding the autoimmune disease often leads to delayed diagnosis and treatment. Priyanka’s perspective on the condition evolved after she met Nick Jonas, who was diagnosed at the age of 13. Understanding that Type 1 diabetes does not have to be a limitation became a turning point, inspiring her to amplify awareness on a larger scale.

For the past five years, Priyanka has been closely involved with Beyond Type 1 as a board member, consistently using her platform to educate and inform. Her efforts in India have included spearheading viral educational campaigns focused on early detection, as well as recruiting diabetes ambassadors to address misconceptions and normalise conversations around the condition.
